If you want to experience a piece of history and German culture in Texas, a visit to Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill is a must.
This historic site is situated on a cliff above the Colorado River on the outskirts of La Grange. This place had a house and brewery built by a German immigrant. Most of it is in ruins now but the brewery has been restored to an extent. A stroll around this place gives you insights into life and German building techniques in the 18th century.
This site also houses the Monument Hil Tomb with a 48-foot shell stone shaft with a stylish art deco-inspired mural. This historic site is well maintained and there is plenty of information about the site available at the visitor center inside the park.
There are plenty of events in the park. The trail of lights event is the most popular. Texas Heroes Day event is held here to honor people who fought and sacrificed their lives for the Texas Republic.
If you are in a group of more than 10 people then you can reserve a guided walking tour through this site. The longer Historic and Scenic tour gives you all the information about the German immigrant who built this property and brewery.
Visitors can also indulge in hiking, picnicking and history studies inside the park. There are well-placed signs which point out to native plants. There are walking trails inside the site. The trails are well shaded and easy to navigate with plenty of benches on the way. You won’t require too much effort to navigate this site. The trails offer a great view of the surrounding landscape and the Colorado River. You can also spot deer on this site. There are numerous picnic areas in the park.
